What Is A Heat Pump?
Heat pumps are high-efficiency systems designed to both heat and cool your home. Instead of generating heat like traditional furnaces or boilers, they transfer heat from one place to another.
-
In the summer, a heat pump functions the same way as an air conditioner; it takes heat from inside the house and deposits it outside - leaving the inside cool. In the winter, it is reversed so that instead of depositing the hot air outside, it pushes it inside to heat your home (hence the name).
-
ENERGY EFFICIENCY: Heat pumps are designed to operate efficiently year-round, helping homeowners reduce energy consumption and lower utility costs.
HEATING & COOLING IN ONE SYSTEM: One system provides both heating and air conditioning, simplifying your home comfort solutions while maximizing convenience.
IMPROVED COMFORT: Heat pumps provide more consistent indoor temperatures, quieter operation, and better humidity control throughout the seasons.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY: Because they transfer heat instead of creating it, heat pumps can reduce your home’s overall environmental impact.
FLEXIBLE INSTALLATION OPTIONS: Available in both ducted and ductless models, heat pumps can be customized for a variety of home layouts and comfort needs.
-
There are three main types of heat pumps that can be used to heat and cool your home.
Air-Source Heat Pumps are the most common type of heat pump used for residential homes. They are full ducted systems that transfer heat between your home and outside air.
Ductless Mini Split Heat Pumps do not require conventional ductwork making them a great solution for many homes and easy to install.
Geothermal Heat Pumps offer higher efficiency and transfer heat between your home and the ground
-
There are many HVAC equipment rebates and incentives offered for heat pumps through Energize Connecticut. Energize Connecticut is an initiative of the Energy Efficiency Fund, the Connecticut Green Bank, the State, and the local electric and gas utilities.
